URT's battery recycling plant is designed for the efficient processing of lithium-ion batteries.
The process begins with material feeding via conveyors and lock gates into the shredding stage, which takes place in an inert nitrogen atmosphere. Nitrogen is supplied by an on-site generator, and oxygen levels are continuously monitored at multiple points to ensure safe operation.
After shredding, the material is temporarily stored in buffer bunkers, as the horizontal vacuum dryer operates in batch mode. During drying, solvents from the battery electrolytes are evaporated; the resulting vapors are condensed and stored in containers for safe handling.
Once dried, the material is discharged into a post-dryer bunker and conveyed to the separation stage. Here, the material is sieved to extract high-purity black mass, while the residual fraction is further processed to recover aluminum, copper, and iron. A delamination mill separates anode and cathode foils, achieving up to 98% black mass recovery. The recovered materials are collected in BigBags.
All exhaust air from the shredding and drying processes is cleaned using an exhaust gas scrubber, followed by additional air treatment systems to ensure environmental compliance and workplace safety.
