Short Description
The Mathis KTF-S is a R&D and pilot-scale, continuous roll-to-roll coating and drying system engineered for Electrode Manufacturing in battery R&D and pre-industrial applications. Designed for high precision and reproducibility, it enables uniform coating of slurries onto metal foils under controlled conditions. The integrated dryer ensures gentle, efficient solvent removal in either contact or non-contact mode, supporting both aqueous and solvent-based formulations.

Product Information in Detail
- The Mathis Coater & Dryer (including model variants such as KTF-S 350 or BA) is a highly modular roll-to-roll pilot coating & drying system engineered for small- to medium-scale electrode production.
- It supports web widths up to 1000 mm and coating speeds from 0.1 to 30 m/min, with precise tension control between 10 and 250 N ensuring stable web handling during coating and drying.
- The system accommodates multiple coating heads—slot-die, knife-over-roll, reverse-roll, and gravure. Each applies the slurry to the metal foil in a different way, allowing operators to select the optimal method for aqueous or solvent-based formulations. This enables consistent layer thickness and coating uniformity across a wide range of electrode chemistries.
- Its multi-zone convective dryer operates under negative pressure for safe solvent management and controlled vapor flow. Drying airflow speeds between 1 and 45 m/s can be adjusted for precise solvent removal and uniform film formation. The dryer reaches temperatures up to 250 °C, with independent top and bottom airflow control to fine-tune drying profiles.
- The KTF-S also supports in-line IR pre-drying, LEL (Lower explosion limit) monitoring, and calendaring integration. Additional interfaces enable mixing-system compatibility with transfer vessels (e.g., Erich or Bühler), in-line thickness measurement using e.g. Scantech, defect marking via e.g. Incore, and solvent extraction in cooperation with European partner systems.
- Designed & manufactured in Switzerland, the Mathis KTF-S or BA combines Swiss precision engineering, scalable modular architecture, and advanced process automation to meet the demanding requirements of modern battery R&D and pilot-scale production.
