Key Takeaways

  • Bridging the Experience Gap: We solve the industry-wide shortage of practical, hands-on battery manufacturing and safety expertise with verified, application-focused training.
  • From "What" to "How": We move beyond basic theoretical knowledge to provide tangible, real-world solutions for facility managers, engineers, and companies.
  • Centralized B2B Intelligence: Electrification Academy serves as the "intelligence layer" for the ecosystem, connecting scattered knowledge into one verified, actionable platform.

Two weeks ago, we officially launched Electrification Academy, and the response has been overwhelming. I’ve received countless questions, ideas, and suggestions from all of you, confirming that the challenges we face in the electrification industry resonate with many of you. So here are some thoughts on why we do this, and I’m looking forward to hearing your comments and insights!

The Strategy Gap in the Global Battery Ecosystem

As we all know, the electrification ecosystem is growing rapidly. Batteries, electric vehicles and renewable energy are at the center of this transformation. However, the journey isn’t without challenges. Fragmented knowledge, unverified information, and a lack of application-focused training hinder the industry’s progress, for even the most experienced people and businesses.

From my perspective, we’re at a crossroads. Europe and the U.S. are striving to catch up with Asia’s lead in this field. Promising companies often fall short of their potential, not necessarily because of a lack of innovation, but because of a lack of foundational support to execute and scale.

4 Critical Roadblocks to Battery Industry Growth

  1. Fragmented and Unverified Information: Critical knowledge is scattered across multiple sources, often lacking credibility or relevance to practical applications. This fragmentation contributes to inefficiencies and repeated mistakes, especially in a fast-evolving and innovative industry.
  2. Experience Gap in the Workforce: The industry suffers from a shortage of professionals with hands-on experience and practical knowledge (especially within high volume / scale manufacturing) to drive innovation and solve real-world challenges.
  3. Misaligned Education and Training: While foundational knowledge is essential, much of the education available today focuses on the “what” rather than the “how.” For example: What is a lithium-ion battery? What are the different chemistries? Why do batteries catch fire? These are valid questions. But for a battery production plant or recycling facility manager, the real concerns might beHow do I ensure regulatory compliance in safety procedures? How do I train my staff to identify and mitigate risks in handling high-voltage systems? How can I design a recycling process that works for both current and future battery chemistries? These application-oriented challenges are often overlooked in traditional educational programs.
  4. Unrealized Potential of Promising Companies: Despite having groundbreaking technologies, many companies struggle to reach their goals due to a lack of strategic guidance and support.

Bridging the 'How-To' Knowledge Gap

We need a shift in focus:

  • From “what is possible” to “how to make it work.”
  • From abstract knowledge to tangible, application-based solutions.
  • From isolated efforts to collaboration across the electrification ecosystem.

The industry requires a workforce equipped with the skills to meet the challenges of tomorrow. It’s not just about understanding; it’s about applying this understanding to drive innovation, efficiency, and sustainability.

A Centralized B2B Intelligence Layer for Batteries

Electrification Academy is my answer to these challenges. It’s a centralized B2B knowledge platform designed to connect businesses, industry leaders, and academia with practical tools and actionable insights.

What We Do:

  1. Empower Knowledge Sharing: We provide a platform for experienced professionals to share their lessons learned, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.
  2. Amplify Great Technology: Companies with exceptional products and technologies get the visibility and support they deserve to succeed.
  3. Bridge Gaps and Build Connections: We help founders, industry leaders, and newcomers navigate the electrification landscape by identifying opportunities to contribute and optimize their business models and processes.

A Personal Mission

Over the last four years, I’ve been approached countless times to design training programs for the electrification industry. Every time, I noticed the same problem: we lack a common language and understanding to start meaningful conversations.

For those who know me or have followed my journey, you know I’m deeply passionate about knowledge sharing, high work ethics, and doing the right thing. Electrification Academy is my way of scaling this mission and empowering the industry to move forward.

How to Join Electrification Academy

The electrification ecosystem needs collaboration, transparency, and application-focused solutions to thrive. Electrification Academy is here to make that happen.

We’re actively looking for:

  • Experts to share their insights and lessons learned.
  • Companies offering innovative solutions, products, and services to feature and support.
  • Users and industry players, including founders, facility managers, and engineers, to share their pain points and needs.

Your input will help us build a platform that connects the right people, solves real-world challenges, and empowers the industry to move forward.

Together, we can drive the transition to a sustainable future—one step at a time.

Last Note: I am aware that what we are aiming for is ambitious, but we are tackling it step by step—with a clear vision, unwavering commitment, and the goal of making a real impact in the electrification industry. We place great value on quality and transparency, while also taking a pragmatic approach. (And yes, it wouldn’t be the first time someone has advised me not to write another PhD thesis!) I’ll be sharing our amazing advisory board with you very soon!
